Frequently asked questions

A few things
worth knowing.

Making a will can bring up questions about the process, your instructions and what happens after the document is prepared. We have gathered answers to help you understand our service before deciding how to proceed.

About the service

What we do and what you can expect from our will-writing service.

What does your will-writing service involve?

We gather and clarify the instructions you provide, prepare a draft will within the agreed service scope, communicate with you about questions and review requests, and deliver the final document with relevant signing and witnessing instructions.

The exact inclusions, fee and delivery arrangements are confirmed before your order is accepted.

Can I ask questions before placing an order?

Yes. You can contact us to describe the service you are considering and ask about the process, scope and arrangements. An initial enquiry does not itself confirm an order or start paid work.

Do I need to have all my information ready?

You do not need to include detailed instructions in your first enquiry. If you decide to proceed, we will explain which information is needed for the agreed service. Providing complete and accurate instructions helps us prepare a draft that reflects what you have told us.

Can I update an existing will?

Contact us first and explain what you would like to change. We can consider whether your request fits the service available. Depending on the existing document and the changes required, preparing a new will or obtaining independent legal advice may be more appropriate. We will clarify the scope before agreeing to undertake the work.

Instructions and process

How an enquiry becomes an agreed piece of work.

What happens after I contact you?

We review your enquiry and respond about the next steps. If the request is suitable for the service we offer, we explain the proposed scope, fee, payment arrangements and expected timescale. We then confirm what information is required and how it should be provided.

When does work begin?

Sending an enquiry does not mean that an order has been accepted. Work begins in accordance with the arrangements confirmed for your order, including the agreed payment and receipt of the information needed to proceed.

What information might you ask me to provide?

Depending on your instructions, this may include your personal details, intended beneficiaries, relevant family relationships, the people you wish to appoint and other information needed to prepare the document.

We will explain what is relevant to your service. Please avoid sending unrelated personal or financial records.

What if my instructions are unclear or incomplete?

We may ask you to clarify particular points or supply missing information before drafting can continue. The delivery estimate may need to be adjusted if essential information is outstanding. We will communicate with you about what is needed.

Fees and payment

Understanding the price and payment arrangements before proceeding.

How much does a will cost?

The fee depends on the service selected and the work required. We will confirm the applicable price and what it includes before accepting your order. Please refer to the current Will Writing Services page for the available options.

When will I be asked to pay?

The payment timing and method will be explained as part of the order arrangements. Work will proceed in accordance with the payment terms confirmed for your service. Please review the order details before making payment.

Could there be an additional charge?

If you request work outside the agreed scope, introduce substantial new instructions or need additional work, we will explain the proposed change and any additional fee before proceeding. We will not present extra work as included unless it is part of the arrangements agreed with you.

Drafts and amendments

Reviewing your document and dealing with requested changes.

Will I be able to review the draft?

Yes. The process includes sending you a draft to review before the final document is delivered. You should check names, details and the wording of your instructions carefully and raise any questions before proceeding to finalisation.

Can I ask for changes?

You can raise questions and request amendments under the review arrangements confirmed for your service. Corrections needed to reflect your original instructions should be distinguished from new instructions or substantial changes, which may require additional work.

We will explain any applicable additional charge before undertaking work outside the agreed scope.

What if I change my mind about my instructions?

Contact us as soon as possible. We will explain whether the change can be accommodated within the existing arrangement, whether the expected delivery time will be affected and whether additional work is required.

Delivery and signing

What happens when your document is ready.

How long does it take to prepare my will?

The expected timescale depends on the service selected, the information required and the nature of your instructions. We will confirm the applicable estimate before accepting your order. Missing information or substantial changes may affect the timing.

How will I receive the document?

The delivery method will be confirmed as part of your service arrangements. The final document is supplied with relevant instructions about signing and witnessing. Physical delivery, original-document storage or other services should not be assumed unless expressly included in the agreed arrangement.

Is my will legally complete when I receive it?

Not necessarily. Receiving a document is separate from completing the required signing and witnessing formalities. You must follow the applicable rules for the relevant jurisdiction and your circumstances.

For general information about wills in England and Wales, see the official GOV.UK guidance.

Do you store my signed original will?

Do not assume that original-document storage is included. Unless storage has been expressly confirmed as part of your service, you should arrange secure storage of your signed document yourself.

Scope and suitability

Knowing when a request may need a different level of support.

Can every situation be handled through a standard service?

No. Some circumstances may require specialist legal advice, including complex business interests, overseas assets, trusts, disputed family matters or other arrangements that fall outside the agreed service. Contact us before ordering if you think your circumstances may be complex.

Do you guarantee that a will will be valid?

No document preparation service should be understood as a guarantee against every legal issue or future dispute. Validity may depend on applicable formalities and individual circumstances. You remain responsible for following the relevant signing and witnessing requirements, and should obtain independent legal advice if you are unsure about your position.

Does your service replace independent legal advice?

Our service is limited to the work expressly agreed with you. Where a question requires specialist advice or your circumstances extend beyond the agreed scope, you may need to consult a suitably qualified legal professional.

Cancellations and privacy

Important information about changing an order and your personal data.

Can I cancel my order?

Cancellation arrangements depend on the contract, how it was entered into and the stage of the service. Where statutory cancellation rights apply, those rights will be respected. Any applicable process, deadlines and refund arrangements are explained in our Service Cancellation Policy and the terms provided with your order.

Can I receive a refund?

Refund eligibility depends on applicable law, the agreed terms, the work already carried out and the circumstances of cancellation. Any statutory entitlement will be handled in accordance with the relevant requirements. Please consult our Service Cancellation Policy for the applicable arrangements.

How do you handle my personal information?

We use relevant information to respond to enquiries, prepare documents within the agreed scope, communicate with you and maintain necessary service records. Access and retention should be limited according to the purpose and applicable requirements. Please read our Privacy Policy for more detail.

How can I raise a concern about the service?

Contact us with a clear description of the issue and any relevant order information. We will review the concern and explain the next steps under our Complaints Policy.

A note about signing

Document delivery is not the final formality.

If your will is intended for use in England and Wales, signing and witnessing requirements are important. The general rules usually require the testator to sign, or acknowledge their signature, in the presence of two witnesses who are present at the same time, with the witnesses signing in the testator’s presence.

The correct steps can depend on the circumstances. If you are unsure, seek independent legal advice before signing.
