Terms & Conditions

These terms explain how our will-writing service is requested, agreed, prepared and delivered, together with the responsibilities that apply to both the customer and the service provider.

Provider: LIFE IS TOO SHORT LIMITED Company number: 15724492 Applies to services ordered through our website

Making a will involves personal choices. Our terms are intended to help you understand the service you are purchasing, what we need from you, and what happens before and after your documents are prepared.

Introduction and acceptance

These Terms & Conditions apply to services supplied by LIFE IS TOO SHORT LIMITED (“we”, “us” or “our”) through lifeistooshort.services and under any service agreement that expressly incorporates them.

By placing an order, you agree to the terms that apply to that order. Before you are committed to purchase, we will make the relevant service description, price, scope, delivery arrangements and other material conditions available to you.

If a separate written service agreement or order confirmation contains a specific term that differs from these general terms, the specific term will apply to the extent of the difference, provided it is clearly agreed and lawful.

Nothing in these terms limits any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

Our will-writing service

We provide a will-writing service intended to help customers record their wishes in a written document based on the instructions they provide and the service scope agreed with us.

Depending on the package confirmed for your order, the service may include:

  • An initial discussion about your circumstances and the wishes you want to record.
  • Collection and clarification of the information needed to prepare the draft.
  • Preparation of a draft will based on the instructions agreed with you.
  • An opportunity to review the draft and raise questions or request amendments within the agreed scope.
  • Delivery of the final document with general instructions about signing and witnessing.

The exact inclusions, exclusions, price, delivery method and expected timeframe will be confirmed before your order is accepted. Any service not expressly included in your order is outside the agreed scope unless we subsequently agree otherwise in writing.

Our service does not mean that a will has been signed, witnessed or put into effect. You remain responsible for completing the required formalities unless a separate service expressly agreed with us states otherwise.

Enquiries, orders and contract formation

Sending an enquiry or submitting a contact form does not by itself constitute an order, confirm a booking or create a commitment to pay for a service.

A contract is formed when we confirm acceptance of your order through the agreed booking or written confirmation process. Before acceptance, we may ask for further information to establish whether the requested work is within the service we offer.

Your order confirmation should identify the agreed service, applicable fee, payment arrangements, anticipated delivery timeframe, delivery method and any relevant limitations or additional terms. Please contact us promptly if any of these details do not reflect what you understood had been agreed.

We may decline or recommend that you seek other assistance where your circumstances fall outside the service we can reasonably provide. Where payment has already been taken for work we cannot provide, we will address the payment and any applicable refund in accordance with the contract and applicable law.

Your instructions and information

Preparing a document that reflects your wishes depends on receiving information that is sufficiently complete and accurate. You agree to take reasonable care when supplying instructions and responding to questions.

You should:

  • Review the information you provide for accuracy and completeness.
  • Tell us if your circumstances or wishes change while work is in progress.
  • Answer reasonable clarification questions relevant to the agreed service.
  • Review names, dates, beneficiary details, appointments and other material information in the draft.
  • Only provide personal information that is relevant to the service or reasonably requested for a clear purpose.

We may pause work while waiting for information or clarification needed to proceed. If missing information affects the anticipated completion date, we will explain the position and, where reasonably possible, agree a revised timeframe with you.

We will not knowingly treat an assumption as a confirmed instruction where clarification is reasonably necessary. However, we cannot independently verify every fact you provide unless verification has expressly been included in the agreed service.

Fees, payment and additional work

The fee applicable to your order will be disclosed before you commit to purchase. Payment timing, accepted payment methods and any applicable taxes will be stated during the ordering process or in your order confirmation.

We will not charge for additional work outside the agreed scope without first explaining the proposed work and applicable charge and obtaining your agreement.

Additional work may be needed if, for example, you request a substantial change to your instructions after drafting has begun, ask us to prepare documents beyond the purchased service, or introduce circumstances that materially change the work required. Whether a request falls outside the original scope will depend on the service purchased and the circumstances.

If additional work is proposed, we will explain the scope, price and expected effect on delivery before proceeding. You may choose not to proceed with that additional work, subject to the terms of the existing order and applicable law.

Preparation, timeframes and delivery

The expected delivery timeframe and delivery method will be confirmed for your particular service before the order is accepted. Any timeframe depends on receiving the information and clarifications reasonably required to complete the agreed work.

Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, a stated timeframe is an estimate based on the information available when the order is accepted. If a material delay becomes apparent, we will notify you and explain the revised expectations.

Documents will be delivered using the method agreed for your order, such as electronic delivery where applicable. Postal delivery, printed originals, storage, registration or ongoing document management are not included unless expressly confirmed.

You are responsible for ensuring that you can access the agreed delivery method, checking messages relating to your order and reviewing the delivered documents promptly.

Draft review and amendments

Where draft review is included in your package, you should read the draft carefully and tell us about any apparent errors, omissions or changes you would like considered.

The number of review rounds, the period for submitting comments and the extent of included amendments will be set out in the relevant service description or order confirmation. We will not assume that unlimited revisions are included unless that has been expressly agreed.

Amendments that correct a departure from your confirmed instructions will be considered in light of the agreed scope. Changes to your instructions, new requirements or substantial additional work may require a separate agreement and fee.

If you identify a concern after delivery, contact us with a description of the issue and the relevant document details. We will review the concern and explain the appropriate next steps. This process does not limit any rights you have under applicable law.

Signing, witnessing and putting the will into effect

Delivery of a draft or final document is not the same as completing the formalities required to execute a will. You must read and follow the signing and witnessing instructions relevant to your circumstances and the applicable law.

For a will governed by the law of England and Wales, the general formal requirements normally include the testator signing, or acknowledging a signature, in the presence of two witnesses present at the same time, with each witness signing in the testator’s presence. Exceptions and particular circumstances may require specific advice.

The applicable rules can differ depending on jurisdiction and circumstances. If you live outside England and Wales, have overseas assets, or are uncertain which law applies, obtain appropriate advice before relying on the document.

General information is available from the official GOV.UK guidance on making sure a will is legal. This link is provided for information and does not replace advice tailored to your circumstances.

Unless separately agreed in writing, our service does not include witnessing your signature, acting as a witness, arranging independent witnesses, storing an original signed will, or verifying that all signing formalities have been completed.

Cancellation, statutory rights and refunds

Our Service Cancellation & Refund Policy explains how to request cancellation and how refunds are assessed. That policy forms part of the information governing your order where applicable.

Depending on the nature of the contract and the way it is made, consumers entering into qualifying distance or off-premises service contracts may have a statutory cancellation period, commonly 14 days. The right, the applicable period and any exceptions depend on the circumstances and applicable law.

If you ask us to begin work during an applicable cancellation period, we will obtain any legally required express request and provide the relevant information about the consequences. Where the law permits, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for services supplied before cancellation. Any loss of a cancellation right following full performance only applies where the legal conditions for that result have been satisfied.

Refunds, including any refund due under consumer law, will be handled in accordance with the applicable legal requirements and the terms of your order. Nothing in these terms creates a blanket exclusion of refunds or statutory cancellation rights.

To request cancellation, use the contact details at the end of this page and clearly state that you wish to cancel the relevant order. Include your name and order reference if available.

Customer responsibilities

You are responsible for deciding whether the service described is appropriate for your needs and for reading the relevant service information before ordering.

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate instructions and respond to reasonable requests for clarification.
  • Review the draft and final document rather than relying solely on its preparation.
  • Raise any concern about the scope, fee or delivery arrangements as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Keep your own copy of documents and correspondence that you may need later.
  • Arrange signing, witnessing and safe storage unless those tasks are expressly included in a separate agreement.

Please use our service only for lawful purposes and do not knowingly submit false information or information that you are not entitled to provide.

Scope, suitability and important limitations

Our work is based on the service scope and instructions agreed for your order. We do not promise that every possible future circumstance, legal change or family dispute will be anticipated or addressed by a document prepared from those instructions.

Certain circumstances may require specialist or individually tailored legal advice. These may include, depending on the facts, complex business ownership, overseas property or assets, trusts, disputed family circumstances, substantial tax questions, or uncertainty about capacity or undue influence.

If we consider that your request falls outside the service we can reasonably provide, we may explain the limitation and recommend that you obtain suitable independent advice before proceeding.

We do not guarantee that a will will never be challenged, that it will resolve every future dispute, or that a document will be suitable where material information has not been disclosed or circumstances have changed.

Documents and permitted use

Documents prepared for your order are supplied for your own use in connection with the purpose agreed with us. You should retain a copy and keep it secure.

You must not misrepresent the source of a document or use our name, branding or materials in a way that implies an endorsement or service relationship that does not exist.

Nothing in this section removes rights you have in information or materials that you supplied, or any other rights that applicable law gives you.

Privacy and communications

We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information through a general enquiry form. If more detailed information is needed for your service, we will explain the appropriate way to provide it.

We may contact you using the details you provide to discuss your enquiry, confirm your order, request relevant instructions, deliver documents or respond to questions about the service. Please keep your contact details up to date while work is in progress.

Electronic communication and delivery carry some practical risks. Please use a suitable email account, take reasonable care when opening attachments and tell us if you believe information or documents have been sent to the wrong address.

Questions and complaints

If you have a question or are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service, please contact us and explain the issue. Where possible, include your order reference, the relevant document or communication, and the outcome you are seeking.

We will review your concern fairly and respond in accordance with our Complaints Policy. Raising a complaint does not remove any statutory rights or other remedies available to you.

Liability and consumer rights

We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill as required by applicable law. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights remain unaffected by these terms.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot lawfully be excluded for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or other liability that the law does not permit us to exclude.

Subject to those protections, we are not responsible for problems arising from materially inaccurate or incomplete information supplied by you, failure to review the document, failure to complete applicable signing formalities, or changes in your circumstances after the service is completed, to the extent that the law permits responsibility to be allocated on that basis.

Nothing in this section is intended to remove a remedy that is available to you under applicable consumer law.

Changes to these terms and governing law

We may update these terms to reflect changes in our services, business arrangements or legal requirements. The terms applicable to an existing order will not be changed retrospectively merely by publishing a revised website version; any change to an existing contract must be made in accordance with that contract and applicable law.

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law applicable to the relevant contract. If you are a consumer, you may also benefit from mandatory protections and rights available under the law of the country where you live. Nothing in these terms deprives you of protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.
